Presentable #35: Fall Shopping List & Moodboards
Everything I want to wear this upcoming season after our endless summer in the Bay

As someone born and raised in California, I never truly experienced the different seasons until adulthood. Most of my life’s been spent in the same temperatures all year round, averaging between 50º-70º, with spots of rain here and there. I’ve found it warm enough to wear shorts 90% of the time, and in elementary school, I wore shorts every day, from cargos to jeans to basketball shorts. It’s what I felt the most comfortable in, even if it wasn’t the most stylish choice.
After moving away from my hometown to San Francisco, I experienced what living in colder weather felt like. And by “colder,” I mean never dipping below 40º. There’s a stereotype about everyone from California not being able to handle the cold and in my case, it’s entirely true. Moving to the Bay allowed me to experiment with layering and try out different combos of jackets and sweaters I probably never would’ve worn had I stayed back home.
I’ve only experienced the fall season once while visiting New York City a couple years ago. In hindsight, I should’ve brought warmer clothes for that trip. I was unprepared for the East Coast cold and needed to wear all my layers at all times; thermals, sweaters, and jackets. Lesson learned. The hardest thing was knowing what to buy that I’d still get some use out of when not in NYC or somewhere else cooler than the Bay. I still have this problem today.
Shopping List
If I were to go back to NYC this fall, I’d plan for a much different wardrobe than the chinos, sweatshirt, and denim jacket I wore in the picture above. Again, I’m looking for things that make sense for traveling and for my daily wear when working from home.
Please note: I may get commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post. Most of are things I’m personally watching on eBay, so good luck to you!
Chelsea Boots: These R.M. Williams Craftsman boots in black suede are beautiful, and a dressier option than the Gardner boot—which I’m also a fan of. These would look great with a pair of washed black denim or dress pants.
Dress Pant: Another item from Ralph Lauren, these Black label cashmere flannel dress pants in black with a grey chalk stripe and side adjusters look amazing. I’ve found that trousers like these work really well for me, and the fabric would keep me warm enough while walking around colder climates.
Flannel Shirt: I’m a big fan of Double RL, but have yet to own one of their flannels. I’ve tried on many versions over the years, and this one is the perfect color for fall. The fabric used for their flannels is so soft, probably the softest I’ve felt.
Cardigan: A piece I’m considering is this shawl collar cardigan in lambswool from Colhay’s. I love the ecru color, although it might not be the most practical with a newborn. It’s also available new on Colhay’s site in a variety of colors, my favorites being olive and dark brown.
Dress Watch: I love the idea of mixing slightly work-wearish items with dressier ones. I’m also a big fan of anyone wearing a gold Cartier tank on a black leather strap with every and any outfit. In sticking with the darker color palette for these items, the nice pop of gold on the wrist is a nice way to add a little bit more character.
Coat: I’ve been watching this wool raglan Drake’s coat for months, and would love to own it someday, just not for the current asking price. It’s a statement piece, and one that would keep me warm for sure. The glen check pattern is so good, I wish this coat was mine.
Moodboard
I’ve always enjoyed seeing the different types of clothes people wear online, especially those who live in colder climates. I’ve admired how they’re able to layer up, by wearing thick sweaters, heavy coats, and lengthy scarves. It’s one of the main reasons why I wanted to move to San Francisco, as it was somewhere that had cold enough weather I could tolerate and offered the opportunity to wear more layers.
Lately, I’ve been into tans, browns, navy blues, and olive greens. All are classic colors and usually pair nice with each other.
Here’s a glimpse of images I’ve collected on the internet from some of the most stylish people I’ve been following over the years. I hope you enjoy.

Presentable #35: Fall Shopping List & Moodboards
My girlfriend and I did a slight twist on the fashion moodboard a couple months ago. We described how we wanted to feel when wearing the outfits, the impression we wanted to give off, and then made each other boards based on that!
It’s a fun way to spend an afternoon and get to know each other’s style and how we view ourselves and each other.
