Presentable #37: Loafing Around
Five quick updates on what I’m wearing, reading, watching, listening to, and working on over this past week

Hello all!
Welcome back to another edition of my weekly newsletter.
I’m keeping things nice and short, sharing five updates on what I’m wearing, reading, watching, listening to, and working on.
I also got a few things back from the tailor—which I’m beyond excited to wear again—and can’t wait to show you soon.
What I’m Wearing
Alden UPL (unlined penny loafers) in Dark Brown Suede. I’ve been waiting years for these, hoping they’d show up on eBay. Thankfully I found this pair and they were practically brand new. After my first wear, I already added a few small stains, which hurt a bit on the inside, but I’m fine with it and think it adds a nice bit of patina, without being too noticeable. I have a ton of outfits I plan on pairing these with. I’m excited to share those with you soon!
What I’m Reading
Project Hail Mary was a blast. I had multiple friends over the years recommend this book and it did not disappoint. You’ll enjoy this book if you’re into sci-fi, adventure, or anything space-related. There are rumors of a movie adaptation, which I hope happens and doesn’t get shelved. The author, Andy Weir, also wrote The Martian, which I’m sure most of you will be familiar with.
What I’m Watching
EASY Creative Tips For Filming Yourself by Vuhlandes. His recording style, music selection, sound design, and color palette; everything he’s doing is super interesting and captivating. I struggle recording myself, even after experimenting with vlogs back in 2019, and the tips he shared are helpful and inspiring. My key takeaway is to get a great tripod, which I don’t have, and I need to invest in one soon.
What I’m Listening To
RE: Analog on YouTube. I randomly stumbled upon this trend on YouTube, where people record themselves mixing vinyl records (I’m guessing this has been going on for a long time given the amount of content for these types of videos) and this one featuring Japanese City Pop and Jazz-Funk is fantastic. I’ve always been a fan of funk and groove, and 1980s Japanese music has so much of that, and I’m just falling in love with it. I wish I would’ve picked up some vinyl during our trip last year!
What I’m Working On
My website: victorkernes.com. It’s the season for updating my portfolio (it always is, am I right?) and earlier this week I launched a new version. It’s been a few years since I’ve updated it, and in the past, I’ve never focused on showing the things I’ve worked on. My goal with this new version is to show current and future employers my skills and how I’ve grown into a Senior-level designer since becoming a designer in 2017.
If you have any feedback or critique, I’d love to hear it!

Huge thanks to my close friends who’ve already given me a ton of great feedback. I’ve learned a lot over these past few weeks about portfolios and resumés, and recognize how important it is to have people in your life who are there to help. Love y’all.
Thanks for reading!
