I. GIFTS I RECEIVED FROM ONE OF MY FAVORITE BRANDS
Sunspel launched their latest Spring Collection this week and reached out to me to see if there were any pieces I’d like to try.
Before I get into what they sent, I’d like to say that I’m fortunate to be working with brands that I’ve been a long-time fan of, so thank you again, Sunspel, and every brand that has sent me gifts as my newsletter has gained traction over the years.
Okay, so let’s get into what they sent.
I noticed they launched a relaxed version of the iconic Riviera Polo, worn by Daniel Craig in the best James Bond movie, Casino Royale, and I was curious to see how it compared to the original.
It’s much more roomy and longer in the body. I’d recommend going true to size. I went with a Large and then stopped by the location at the Marin Country Mart yesterday and realized I’m a Medium.
For the original, I have both a size Medium and Large, and the Medium is now borderline as tight as it was on Daniel Craig, which is fine, but I’m not nearly as ripped as he was, at least, not yet (wink, wink). He was 38 in that movie, so I have two more years to catch up!
I also received the Moleskin Twin Pocket Jacket in Navy, which fits slimmer than I expected, and I’m glad I went with a Large. It’s lightweight, and I plan to take it with me on a trip to LA next week.
They also sent me the Lambswool Knitted Polo Shirt in Dark Navy Mouline, which is perfect for chilly mornings right now (I’m wearing it while writing this newsletter at a local coffee shop, and I’m extremely cozy).
And last, you guessed it, another polo shirt—the Cotton Knit Polo Shirt in Navy—which again, I figured out that I should’ve also gone true-to-size (Medium). I originally sized up to a Large, but it was a bit too loose. It has ribbed cuffs on the sleeve and body, so I prefer the closer fit of the smaller size.
If you have any questions about their products, let me know in the comments below!

II. NEW BOOK ON VINTAGE WATCHES AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER
Eric Wind (@ericwind), of Wind Vintage, announced his new book this week—Vintage Watches: The Modern Guide.
He’s a watch industry expert and has vast knowledge about the history of watches, reference numbers, and model origins. He’s been featured on Hodinkee many, many times, and has a great personal watch collection.
His site has some of the best vintage watches available online, and I love browsing it each week to check out all of the new timepieces, which are sometimes things I’ve never seen before.
I would not call myself extremely knowledgeable in the world of watches, even though I spent a couple of years working at Hodinkee. I only know a few reference numbers and a small amount of history behind a few brands. I do know that I prefer vintage watches over modern ones, and that was the thing I was most excited about during my time there.
I still want to add a vintage Cartier to my watch rotation; however, prices continue rising (more on that later), and finding a vintage one with an automatic movement is quite hard. Also, I’d love to own a Rolex Explorer 1016 someday.
I only have one other watch book in my personal library—A Man and His Watch by Matt Hranek, which is excellent, and I love flipping through it from time to time. This new book by Eric looks like a great companion to Matt’s.
PSA—I love books, and I can’t get enough of ‘em. My friend Tim Marvin (@trim_marvlin), who recently launched his own Substack, wrote an article on men needing to read more (specifically fiction, of which I am a huge fan of sci-fi), and I couldn’t agree more.
While this book is not fiction, it looks like another great photo book to flip through whenever wanting to look at some beautiful watches.
It’s available to pre-order on Amazon and Target for $50.

III. THE WORLD’S LARGEST VINTAGE CARTIER COLLECTION
Speaking of vintage watches, Sotheby’s had a major announcement on Instagram this week:
The world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of vintage Cartier watches, assembled over decades, is coming to Sotheby's.
‘The Shapes of Cartier: The Finest Vintage Grouping Ever Assembled’ features more than 300 timepieces from the French maison’s rarest and most sought-after models — including the beloved Crash, Octagonal, Bagnoire, Pebble and more.
WOW. The watches and photos look stunning.
If you’re a fan of Cartier or into vintage watches at all, you have to check this out.
Some of the designs are absolutely bonkers by today’s standards.
I love the creativity, regardless of the practicality. Like, this clip-on watch is adorable, but I could easily see it getting lost or broken. And, the miscellaneous pieces that integrate a watch, like the lipstick container and pen examples, are so clever and cute. There are so many interesting non-wristwatch pieces in this collection. I love this so much.
I also love the colored paper cutouts they made for the marketing imagery. They did a whole series of them, which you can check out here.
Since these are all up for auction, and I assume will sell for a lot of money, I’m going to continue admiring from afar and check how much each ends up selling for after the fact.

IV. BEST VINTAGE WATCHES TO BUY UNDER $5,000
And finally, one more thing to share on vintage watches (can’t you tell how much I love them?)—Complex shared an article, written by Elias Marte (@staycrispymyfriends), titled “10 Best Vintage Watches to Buy in 2026, According to a Collector.”
In it, Elias shares his top picks for watches under $5,000, which include references from brands like Seiko, Universal Geneve, Cartier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, and Rolex.
It’s an excellent list, and my favorite niche watch he included was the Vulcain Cricket, which I remember selling a few during my time at Hodinkee.
I’d say the “higher-end” brands, like Cartier, JLC, and Vacheron Constantin (in yellow gold), are fairly hard to find under $5,000. Especially when it comes to movements—anything under that price point is usually quartz. I prefer automatic or manual movements, but those versions jump up to almost double the price.
The Rolex Datejust, which has an automatic movement, can be found close to that price point, and I’d say it’s the best watch to start with when buying your first.
I’d add two more watches around that price point to Elias’s list: the Rolex Explorer 14270 and Omega Speedmaster (if you have a smaller wrist, the Reduced version is even more affordable).
Also, Elias is one of the partners of Alfargo’s Marketplace, where he sells vintage watches he’s either sourced or from his personal collection. I hope to stop by and check out his timepieces in the near future!

V. NEW PIECES FROM ONE OF MY NEW FAVORITE BRANDS
The Hidden Rivet is a brand that’s been on my radar for a minute. I’ve yet to try anything on or own any of their pieces, and I checked with the brand’s owner, Wyatt Sweeney, about stopping by the showroom next week when I’m in LA (update: he’s just had his last open hours and won’t be available unfortunately. I’ll have to catch him next time!).
The brand is known for its wide-fitting jeans, and recently, they launched a few new items on their online shop: the Attached hooded sweatshirt (above, right), the Grounded Roots jeans, and the Grounded Moss jeans.
The one piece that hasn’t been released yet, but I saw announced on their Instagram, was the Type I-inspired denim jacket (above, left).
It looks fantastic. It might be a bit slim, but it’s hard to tell by the lay-flat photo itself. I’m curious to see what it looks like on someone.
On their Instagram, most of the tops they pair with their wide-legged bottoms are cropped and form-fitting, which provides a nice juxtaposition, but is hard to pull off if you’re on the taller side, like me.
If you’re in New York, there is one stockist—Free Agency. I hope to try on some pieces from the brand soon so I can figure out my sizing. If you own any of their pieces, let me know below!
